OUR HISTORY

Atlantik-Bruecke Canada was founded over 30 years ago by William Mulholland, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Montreal and the Hon. Allan J. MacEachen, who had served as Finance and Foreign Minister of Canada. 

Over three decades, Atlantik-Bruecke Canada has involved leading Canadian business, political, and academic leaders in a continuing dialogue with German counterparts. We have partnered with Atlantik-Brücke, based in Berlin, Germany (founded in 1952) for over 30 years to bring these discussions to life.

The organization’s keynote event is an annual, closed door conference of approximately 30 members from each country engaged in candid conversation on current issues of global significance and mutual interest. 

At the 2019 Conference, the Canadian delegation passed a motion to formalize the organization in Canada by forming a non-profit, expanding its activities, and moving to a membership structure which is aligned with that of Atlantik-Brücke e.V.
